“Presley’s Gained Some Ground” As Henry Barbour Warns of Trouble For Reeves On The Coast

Jackson, MS – GOP Strategist Henry Barbour rang the alarm bells of low Republican enthusiasm for Tate Reeves on the Gulf Coast. He said that the way Tate Reeves is defeated is if Republicans don’t turn out in the Coast. SuperTalk host Paul Gallo concurred with Barbour saying, “the 600 lb gorilla in the room is getting people to turnout.”

Reeves had a lackluster performance against nominal candidates in the Republican gubernatorial primary, particularly on the Gulf Coast. Tate Reeves underperformed his statewide total, falling under 75 percent in Harrison County, Hancock County, Pearl River County, Jackson County, and George County. More than 1 in 4 Republicans want another candidate instead of Tate Reeves after 20 years in statewide office. A Mississippi Today poll found that 21% of Republican primary voters back Brandon Presley over Reeves.

All of this follows a scathing new report from the Daily Beast that shows that Tate Reeves spent more than $3.3 million on mansion renovations, including $2.4 million taxpayer dollars that included thousands of dollars for lemon trees, ice machines and meditation gardens. Tate Reeves is more concerned about making his temporary home suitable for his good ol’ boy’s lifestyle, instead of focusing on making the lives of everyday Mississippians better.

“Republicans are sounding the alarm about low enthusiasm among their base - a troubling sign for Reeves as we head into the homestretch,” said Andre Wagner, Executive Director of the Mississippi Democratic Party. “It’s not hard to see why Republicans, Democrats, and Independents are souring on Reeves since he is occupied with enriching himself and his friends while Mississippians are left with underfunded schools, hospitals close to shuttering, and the highest tax on food in the country.”
