Charlottesville racists also shamed Mississippi
Like many who have reviewed the pictures from Charlottesville, Virginia, in horror and tragic disbelief, we could not help but notice the many, many images of the Mississippi flag being carried by attendees of a rally for white supremacy. The Mississippi Democratic Party called for the immediate action from lawmakers on both sides to keep this conversation of flag change moving forward. We are proud to do so again without reservation. While the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus answered the call, we now wait for leadership from the other side. However, the most recent inflammatory statements from President Trump go well beyond the local issue of changing our flag and tears at wounds that need healing.

From our Chair
One Year Ago ...
On August 1, 2016, our current Mississippi Democratic Party Executive Committee took office. There are many projects we want to complete, but we have made some significant headway toward our initial goal of getting this party back to where we should be: productive, significant, respected, and in the business of winning elections.

We all know that women do all the work that really counts and that's especially true in the Democratic Party. The Mississippi Federation of Democratic Women is essential to or commitment to maintaining and advancing women's rights as well as those of every one.
We elect these women and men starting at the grass roots level to be our out-front torch bearers. Composed of working people, retirees and professionals, our leadership is direct evidence of the dynamic diversity of our party.
These life-long, committed, Democrats stick with us even if the levees break. They fill the sand bags and tote them to the crevasse not only by generous donations but by reliable and invaluable volunteerism. They and other affiliate groups help us keep the furrows straight.
