It seems to me that Gov. Barbour's national political ambitions need to be called in to question here and also the fact that he has done everything in his power to make himself look good to the Republican party instead of doing what is right for the state of Mississippi and it's people. It is high time that we hold our elected officials accountable for their actions and call them out on doing what is best for them are their party. Thankfully in 2011 we will have a new democratic governor until then lets put the pressure on the governor and his republican friends.

Why are people just now realizing that Haley Barbour was going to begin a campaign against unemployment compensation? He has been proposing ending what he calls "entitlement " programs for the past year. What did you think he was referring to? He has spent barely $3,400 on jobs creation from the ARRA (stimulus) funds that were accepted by MS; he has shown no interest in jobs promotion. He has never worked beyond trying to get businesses into MS that would promote his own and his friends financial interests.

His only "jobs initiative" is the MS Steps program - restricted to participants who have a child under 18 in the home, clearly aimed at families eligible for assistance under social service programs, programs he has been trying to dismantle for years. Older unemployed people and individuals/couples without young children are excluded, and no job assistance or programs are provided to that group, including those with children in college.

If you think he is a threat to the economic well being of MS residents only; think again. There is rumor he may run for president. His discriminatory practices could become a national policy. Keep in mind, he has been this way long before any recession. MS has the lowest academic scores in the nation, the highest poverty, unemployment, and illiteracy rates in the nation. The highest number of non white individuals incarcerated. The worst medical care - we still have incidents of tuberculosis and whooping cough on a regular basis. MS is a third world entity existing within a first world nation, and we have Haley Barbour to thank for that.

See what the future holds when you take the position "that is their problem, I don't even live in MS." Don't underestimate Haley Barbour's influence on the Republican Party. He is an Authoritarian Conservative who is directly responsible for the impoverished state of MS, and he wants his form of government to dominate national politics, and it looks like he is succeeding.
