Toyota announced today that they are resuming production plans at their North Mississippi plant. This is excellent news for the state and for North Mississippi, in particular.

Mississippi has invested a lot in this project, and this is a good sign that we’re finally going to realize the payoff of the investment.

Glad to hear this since Governor Barbour allocated $35M of the original Katrina Rebuilding money he lobbied for to repair roads in the area of the proposed Toyota plant – while many on the Gulf Coast leading to the beach drives, post Katrina, are still little more than partially shell covered trails. And let’s not forget the $7M for the Jackson MS police force to “fight crime” in Jackson out of the same funds, while Coast deputies were working long 12 or more hour days without even overtime pay.
