In a short and sweet editorial, the Sun-Herald is once again scratching their heads at Gov. Barbour’s continued and unwavering support of BP:
Gov. Haley Barbour’s unhesitating support for more drilling in the Gulf — during one of the nation’s worst environmental disasters, which was caused by drilling — was odd enough. Now he opposes forcing BP to put billions of dollars into a compensation fund for victims.
While it should no longer be surprising, the governor’s advocacy for the oil industry is still disheartening for those who elected him to be their champion.
The governor makes little sense with his statements, even as he tries to wrap it in BP’s ability to stay financially viable. That is an absurd notion. BP is doing what Barbour generally advocates for Mississippi: cut spending and sell assets. Even after doing so, they will remain a financially viable company, as we hope they will.

This demonstrates just how utterly corrupt Haley Barbour and the repugnant…I mean republican party has become.
Gov Barber also defended (and made millions from) the cigarette industry, long after there was no doubt that cigarettes killed people and cost us billions in health care. It should be plain that Barber is not committed to the people of Mississippi or America but to wealth and rule by the wealthy. He says he is a reformed lawyer. As a lawyer, whether he is reformed or not,. I’m proud that he is not one of us.
Why are we surprised at Mr. Barber’s comments and support. Republican get most of their financial support from Oil, Chemical, Financial, and other companies who hurt the poor with their mistakes. I am not surprised that he and the Senator from Texas are out front on this front of protection for BP. It would be the same for Shell, Chevron, and any others, because they don’t have to eat the sea food, lounge on the beach, or live in the vicinity of their friends disastrous destruction. They are doing what they do, whenever they hold office. What will they say, when the Hurricanes come, and the lightning storms are raining fire on the Gulf Coast?
What is there to wonder about? I am sure he is filling his pockets so he can continue his life style when he (thank goodness) leaves office in 2011…and a friend here on the coast refers to them as Repukes. The Guv is a firm believer in more wealth for the wealthy.
