Sen. Ezell Lee is one step away from becoming the next mayor of Picayune.
While we are hoping for the best for Sen. Lee, we will certainly miss him in the Senate if he is successful.
Speaking of missing him in the Senate, here’s why he is saying he’s leaving the Senate:
“Being in the Legislature is a lot like being in a cult,” he said. “If you’re voting the way the ones in control want you to, you’re all right. As soon as you vote the other way, they kick you out of the cult.”
Lee said, in his opinion, Gov. Haley Barbour and Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant, both Republicans, are dictating how the 52 state senators vote.
“If I can’t make a difference, I don’t want to be there,” Lee said. “I feel like I’ve done all I can. It’s a party system, and I’m a person of the people.”
Sen. Lee has served the Senate for 17 years, through three governors and three lieutenant governors. Shows you how high our current leadership ranks.
