Federal Observers in Vicksburg Tomorrow?

It appears that federal observers are going to be in Vicksburg tomorrow for the elections. The Justice Department has undoubtedly heard credible claims of plans for alleged misconduct on behalf of a candidate.

The news came from @vicksburgnews via Twitter:

US Justice Dept announced it will monitor elections in Mississippi starting June 2, 2009 to ensure compliance w/ Voting Rights Act of 1965

We don’t know for certain if this is happening, but we have heard credible claims of roadblocks that were going to be put up in and around Vicksburg tomorrow.

If the roadblocks happen, we bet the claim will be that they are regular yet random checks on motorists. But considering that you’ve got an incumbent mayor running scared, it makes you wonder…

The best bet would be no roadblocks at all tomorrow. Let people vote, and let the winner carry the day without any appearance of irregularity.

(By the way… No manner of Voter ID will correct this problem. It’s voter intimidation, plain and simple.)
